description: Reference for Set's item suffix table, the 195 entries such as citadel or dawn that end an item's name as "of the suffix". Use when listing or downloading every suffix with its weight and odds, reading the schema of a suffix row, decoding the suffix position of an item's indexes, or deciding what a suffix means in a game.

# Suffixes

The suffix ends an item's name: `fine burning steel sword` **`of the dawn`**. It is table 18, the last of the 19 item tables.

```sh
curl https://set.world/api/tables/suffix               # JSON
curl 'https://set.world/api/tables/suffix?format=csv'  # index,name,weight,probability,rollFrom,rollTo,contentVersion
```

## Schema

The response is a `TableResponse` and each row a `TableEntry`, both defined in [Item properties](https://set.world/skills/item-properties). A suffix row has no extra columns. Two of the 195 rows:

```json
[
  { "index": 0, "name": "-", "weight": 1099, "probability": 0.8499613302397525, "rollFrom": 0, "rollTo": 1098 },
  { "index": 10, "name": "dawn", "weight": 1, "probability": 0.0007733952049497294, "rollFrom": 1108, "rollTo": 1108 }
]
```

## Facts

- 195 entries. Entry 0 is `-`, meaning no suffix: 85% of rolls. The other 194 words share the remaining 15%.
- The table opens `-`, `citadel`, `tower`, `bastion`, `castle`, `siege`, `trebuchet`, `exarch`, `exile`, `light`, `dawn`, `dusk`, `midnight`, `eternity`.
- On an item: `item.props[4].name` is the word, `item.indexes[18]` its `index` and `item.roll[18]` the raw roll.
- The name adds ` of the ` before the word; the table stores the bare word.

## What a suffix does

In Set, three things:

1. **Name.** It appears in the composed name unless it is `-`.
2. **Rarity.** Its probability is one of the six factors of the rarity score. A rarer suffix raises the score; it never changes the grade.
3. **Theme.** `/api/modifiers` hashes the word into one theme channel. The same word always gives the same channel.

The score and the channels are owned by [Calculations](https://set.world/skills/calculations). Nothing else: Set ships no suffix effects. What `of the dawn` does is your game's rule, for example:

```ts
type SuffixEffect = { suffix: string; channel: string; effect: string; magnitude: number };
// { suffix: 'dawn', channel: 'jumpHeight', effect: 'your rule', magnitude: 0.05 }
```

A lottery craft keeps the rarest suffix among its candidates, so larger spends return suffixed items more often; the odds are in [Crafting an item](https://set.world/skills/crafting-an-item).
